OK so first Bundisliga race for my season, which is a German Club race just like cycling tours like the Tour de France if you could compare it and we have clubs which European clubs pay for us to race for them.
Anyway, was a sprint distance with some top athletes there the likes of Fredrick Bealubre a European champion and top 10 at Olympics, Daniel Unger (2008 world champion) and other young word champions.
Started off pretty rutheless getting beaten around by the Germans in the swim, told myself to harden up but those Germans are kind of big and tough themselves!
I got out in the front pack of 10 and we broke away from there, the bike was to say the least a smackdown! The Russians were punishing everyone and we worked together to stay away from the rest of the field. We got off the bike with about a 30-40 second lead, and by that time i was hurting, but none the less the goal was to take the run out hard and see what happens from there.....so i did.
And after the first 1km i was sitting in behind the fast Frenchman in 2nd then he dropped me and thought well....that was the goal lets just make it to the finish now. But after 2.5km he was only 20metres ahead and i started to feel good as i was working with another German. So i put my foot down and caught him with 1.5km to go. The crowd was insane cheering and especially my Team coach Martin and the rest of the support that made the drive from DArmstadt. As we had 700m to go i past Freddy into 1st and from then i grinded my teeth and let loose gaining a 5meter lead then 10. But not realising how far i had to go it was hurting ALOT! and i just kept sprinting until the finish line came 600m later! 1ST it was!
Brilliant result for me, very pleased and especially for the team, it's an honour to have DSW12 (my team) suit on going 1st over the finish line.
So after a great result i'm off to try and back it up next week in Hungary where i will line up for the World Cup there, resting up for the rest of the week (recover/massage/train/recover/sleep/ and whatever i do not go harder than i should.....until Sunday!)
